Properties of Molecules

Properties of Molecules:

  • Melting and boiling points: Molecular substances tend to be gases, liquids or low melting point solids, because the intermolecular forces of attraction are comparatively weak.
  • Solubility in water: Most molecular substances are insoluble (or only very sparingly soluble) in water.
  • Electrical conductivity: Molecular substances won't conduct electricity.
  • The molecules of any given substance are all similar. Thus, all the molecules of water are similar.
  • The molecules of different substances are different. The molecules of water are entirely different in properties from the molecules of carbon dioxide.
  • The properties of a substance are the properties of its molecules. Thus, the properties associated with water are the properties of H_{2}O molecules.
